Have done quite a few marathons all on the road but this was my first ever ultra. I didn't really know what the terrain was going to be like or what to expect and this event turned out to be pretty unique. It was a real mixture of farmers fields, Ashdown Forest, a few roads and plenty of gates and stiles. One spectacular face-plant fall off a stile at 10km wasn't the best start to a 50k!
It is quite a small event so there could be large parts where you are running on your own, I thought the course was superbly marked out with road markings, signs and hanging red and white tape showing us the way. At no point was I worried about going wrong.
The aid stations where every 5/6 miles and they were superb, brilliant volunteers and a great mix of drinks and food available.
At the finish we got a lovely medal and hand made mug, the official finish results/times were also available straight away. In the finish area there was food (BBQ) and drink available too.
Overall it was a great experience for my first ultra and would definitely say it is quite a challenging event.
