Some events are there purely to fund-raise in the local community and the Langley 7 race in the Autumn is one of those.
The odd distance of 7 miles starts outside the church (within which registration is done) in the centre of Langley village and heads out along the country lanes. It passes the Rossendale Trust centre for which it raises the funds for (Supported Living care to adults with learning and physical disabilities) and the staff and residents line that section of the route and cheer on the runners.
Beyond that is the hill. It's the sort that is unrelenting and gets steeper as you approach what looks to be the highest point. At which you turn the corner and carry on climbing!
Of course what goes up must come back down if it's going to return to (nearby) the start. So the next 2.5-3 miles is a pleasant descent.
In 2015 the route at the end of the course was changed. Prior to the change following the descent you joined the main road to run back to the reservoir which was fraught with traffic hazards. So from 2015, upon reaching the bottom of the hill, the route goes back up and follows a trail path for about half a mile or so before dropping out just up from the reservoir finish.
Finishers were given water, a local beer and some Mexican food kits!
