← Brighton Marathon

This was my  second time running Brighton as I had unfinished business with mile 20 onwards

This marathon turned out to be expensive again as you have to pick up your number the days before and even though I booked the hotel two days after lasy years marathon it was still expensive.

I did not have any problems getting my number but I did see the queues building up quickly. The Expo wasn't intresting to me as I didnt see any great offers.

Brighton organisers have a few points to improve on but I will start with the postives as there were some.

Positives

The bag drop was easier this year and I could fit everything I needed to in the bigger bag then I got last year. I didn't have a problem handing my bag in.

The support from the crowds were fantastic, they were loud and some even had hose pipes and sponges for runners if they needed them. They got me through the last three miles.

Improvements

Water and cups. I wish they would of used bottles instead but the ultimate nono was running out of both which the organisers have said never happened. I had to text my partner to get me water as I was struggling with the heat and was feeling faint at times. I saw so many people DNF. Brighton organisers told me that they over ordered on the water and cups when they saw the weather forecast.

The finish area. I finished just over five and a half hours and when I finished the only thing they hadn't run out of was medals. They had run out of t shirts/foil ( yes even on a hot day I go really cold after a race) water bottles that we were told we would get. I ended up buying a bottle of water from an overpriced stall in the event village.

The event villiage was full of people and I had to be extra careful that I didn't get run over by pushchairs. I met my partner in town as there was  no way I would of found him easily.

I do believe that if Brighton organisers sorted out these few problems that this race would be fantastic.
