← OPAP Limassol Marathon GSO

I was lucky enough to win a place in the Limassol marathon through The Running Bug and Breathe Unity PR.

Pre race - the pasta party was great, well organised, good quality food.

Race day - logistics - there were free buses collecting runner, this system worked efficiently.  There were plenty of portaloos, quese were not too long.  The race start was delayed a little to allow latecomers to not miss out. We started early in the day (7am) to avoid the heat, which was great as the afternoon could be spent by the pool!

Race - The course had some lovely scenery; and was mainly flat, with a few undulations.  There were plentiful, well stocked aid stations, with enthusiastic volunteers, even for those of us far down the field. Though the field was small, the cut off time was generous.  The only slight negative was the loop which we had to run on the home straight - it was hard, especiailly in the heat, to turn away from home and run that loop.

The finish straight was long and hot, but crossing the line, we wwere greeted immediately with water and medics checking we were OK. I was a little bit sick (nothing new there then) and they were concerned to make sure nothing was properly wrong with me.

Then medal; and a free beer!

The atmosphere around the race was lovely. Just lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed it.  Even though the field was small and I was alone a lot, there was plenty to distract my mind.

I thik that the size of the field at this race wil increase as word gets out...its a fast mainly flat course, with great organisation and lovely people. Whats not to like?
