← Surrey Half Marathon

Entered this on the basis of being voted one of the best half marathons about.

Good Stuff

  • Number was sent out so no faffing about prior to race
  • Bag drop off was efficent once you got in the building (I managed to go in via the exit - ooops)
  • Pre Race band was good fro atmosphere
  • Could hear the start and the bloke with the mic was actually heard and semi interesting
  • Course was completley closed road
  • Pretty scenic route
  • Both miles/km signposted

Bad Stuff

  • Disappointed with the medal - looks cheap
  • No goody bag?   Space blanket / banana / protein bar and water meant your arms were getting full once out of exit area
  • In view of the above it was expensive to enter
  • No T-shirt for that price?
  • No isotonic/sports drinks on course

In general it was a good race just marred by the cost and rewards at the finish. Felt slightly cheated especily when looking at medal from weymouth which was the alternative.

Mark, Thanks for taking the time to give us a review. The awards that we have won are not endorsed, but were awarded to us as a direct result of voluntary reviews from runners who have taken part in the event before. I'm sorry that you didn't like the medal - we can assure you that for that size and weight of medal they are not cheap! But we do change the design each year so fingers crossed that you'll prefer our 2018 design. :) With regard to the goody bag we'll raise your request in our debrief. Along with the electric lead car and encouraging the use of public transport as just a couple of examples, not issuing plastic goody bags is just one of the ways we strive to be a zero-impact event. We have always upheld our promise to give our runners all the goodies without the bag, but we promise to discuss the provision of bags in our debrief. Hope that answers some of your points - t-shirt and sports drinks will also be discussed. Hopefully see you on 11th March 2018. Surrey Half - RunThrough Events
