A nice friendly event, but a couple of things could have been better organised. The pre-event info was overly complicated - could have been reduced to one page with just the essentials, which should have (but didn't) include a swim course map. It would also have been extremely useful to have had the 'What3words' event location sooner rather than trying to Google where where Lake 62 was. On teh day the directions and car park signage weren't great. We missed the car park because the signage was in yellow, whereas the pre-event instructions said it would be in blue. It wasn't obvious where to park as by the time we got there (for the 1.5km event), the car park was full. The 'overflow' car park was in fact signposted 'camping', which is where we ended up parking. It would have been really helpful (and reassuring) to have had a few marshalls directing people in. Regarding the briefing the map was in fact incorrect (the guy doing the race briefing said it was from a few years' ago), so a few people were asking questions about what our swimming route was. This sort of attention to detail is important and helps people feel less anxious on the day. If there wasn't the budget to print a flash new swim route, a 'rough and ready' A1 black and white poster would have sufficed. Finally, a sustainability suggestion. Rather than giving away swim caps why not ask people to bring their own? Most swimmers have a selection of swim caps in different colours, so it would have been easy to have asked swimmers to bring their own cap in the correct colour for their race.
Thank you for your review Suzanne, we can look to provide a simplified version alongside the detailed version of the race guide. We note the car park comments and have since provided blue arrows alongside the yellow car park sign on the entrance which we hope fixes this issue. We will be updating all printed maps for our events in 2022, which will solve any conflicting concerns. Despite the few comments we hope you enjoyed the event and hope to see you return to show you the improvements. - LPS Events Ltd
