Sitting by the Docks of Liverpool the Echo Arena is host to a wonderfully organised BTF Triathlon. I chose Standard which was also a Age Group Qualifier so it was highly competitive & busy!
Race information was sent out by email a good week before giving you time to read instructions for registration. Or so you think! Some people still turn up without their helmets, so quite a few turned away!
You could rack your bike day before which was a good idea saves carrying everything over in the morning as Transition wasn't open for long.
Swim start was in the Dock. A slight mystery tour until you see it signposted! The race briefing is before each wave. The swim was one lap & took you under a couple of bridges so it was great for spectators, apparently there is Jellyfish! The swim exit is a bit of a nightmare up stairs, I got cramp & could only just about hop up them!
Transitions are in the Arena & long! If you have done London Triathlon expect the same.
Bike & Run is pretty much flat out and back taking in the sights of the Dock & Liver Building. Only the Wind to contend with!
Both routes are great for spectators as they can line the street or stand near transition or the Finish.
Marshals were very helpful, the goody bag was useful although I'm not sure a P20 SPF 30 is needed in Liverpool! ;)
The Medal wasn't great a bit disappointing a bit like my result as I picked up a Calf injury on the run.
On a whole a great weekend as we stayed for 3 days at the Hampton Hilton which is closest to the Arena with secure parking. A good recommendation for anyone thinking of staying next year
