Ok, so I'll start with the obvious- this race is tough! You'll be running a course over rough trail routes in the middle of the night, and in 2019 the temperature dropped to -6C. So whether you do this as an individual or a team effort it's not to be taken lightly.
The race can be done either as an individual entry or as a team of 3. The goal is to see how many 5km loops can be done in 6 hours. For the team entry the only rule is that only one member of the team can be on the course at any one time - other than that the race can be divided any way you like.
The route is a 5km loop starting and finishing at the Foxlake activity centre, while there is fairly minimal elevation gain (about 46m) the trail is quite rough and has a variety of forest, moor and coastline sections. During the 2019 race it was both icy and damp in numerous places.
There is an aid station at the start/finish line where you can get water etc. there is also a heated tent. The atmosphere in the tent with team members waiting on each other was really good.
Overall a tough, but enjoyable winter challenge.
