← Escape from Meriden - Autumn Edition

No support, no checkpoints, no route, no help whatsoever. Who would want to take part in an event like this?  On the face of it you could think that nobody would, but the utterley brilliant, slightly bonkers, concept of this really has to be experienced!  Participants gathered at Meriden, the geograpical centre of England, for a midnight, yes midnight, mass start. From then on you have 24 hours to get as far away on foot as you can (dressed like an escaped convict in an orange boiler suit!)  The genius bit is you can go in any direction you choose. Participants are issued with a GPS tracker to record their every movement (and make sure they don't cheat). A quick look on the tracking website, shows participants, literally, heading in every direction on the compass.  When you've had enough, you can quit. You simply text the event organiser and switch off your tracker.  Personally, I ended on 56 miles, having had to make a significant detour to avoid flooded roads. Some went more than double that diistance.  An absolutely awesome event - I'm clearly not alone in thinking this as the 2020 event sold out in a couple of minutes. Fortunately I got a place so will be back to have another go!  Thoroughly recommended!
