I was a last minute replacement in a team so don’t know much about the registration and pre race info.
Places could be changed/transfer on a Facebook group right up to the race day.
The race starts at the centre of England, Merdian at midnight on a Friday.
Only a few miles from Birmingham Airport so getting there wasn’t a real issue.
Couple of pubs to relax in before heading to the church hall for registration.
Easy registration, collection of orange jumpsuit, collection of GPS tracker and if like us, chaining up.
The idea of the race?! Run as far away as you can in 24 hours (solo) or 36 hours for pairs and groups.
You choose the route but your overall distance is measured as the crow flies so choose a straight route!
We choose to run towards Hull so passed Nuneaton, Leicester, Loughborough and ended up near Newark. 80 miles ran and over the 60 miles as the crow flies circumference line.
Obviously there is no support, no cheering crowds and no official photos.
Basically once you start you are on your own.
The tracker and app is useful for seeing where you are on the map and useful for supporters to follow your progress.
The tracker needs to posted back to the company after the event.
T-shirts can be pre paid and picked up at the start of the event.
Results are said to be online in a few days and then different medals depending on distance covered are sent out a few weeks after the event.
Personally it was my 1st ultra, it was brutal and challenging but an amazing experience.
Worth doing but I don’t think I’ll do it again.
