← Yorkshire Marathon

Registration and sign up is easy with numbers and a race magazine being posted out.

The start is at the University and heads through York for the first 2 miles. The event village and start areas are spread out across the campus and the signage is pretty poor so make sure you check your maps and get your bearings!

Overall I found this a tough run. It's billed as having great support but to be honest it was very quiet apart from small pockets of spectators. Much of the run is out in the countryside which although it's scenic it's very hard mentally without the crowd support.

The volunteers and marshall's were excellent though and very supportive when you passed each one.

This also is supposed to be a flat route, it's not. Lots of long slow inclines particularly on the second half of the race.

Nice medal and bright pink finisher t-shirt with a goody bag. Some offers via email aswell which is good. The marshall's were handing our foil blankets at the finish which were welcome after being hit with heavy rain for the last few miles!

It's one to consider but I don't think I'd be back, maybe for the 10 mile not the Marathon. It's just too quiet. I'd like to see the route incorporate more of York if they could with maybe a city centre finish if logistics allowed, that would certainly help the actual running experience.
