My first Lakeland 50. Absolutely fantastic event!
Marc made us all feel part of #Lakeland family from the minute we arrived. The Lakes are a very long way from Cornwall but so worth the drive. Camping is on a school field and there are portable showers and toilets. A brilliant atmosphere and everything you need. Registration, kit check etc all done by wonderful volunteers. We watched the 100 milers off and then settled down for the evening in a local pub. Our briefing was 8.30am on the Sarurday then a coach to our start.
The route! Wow! Hard but amazing. Views to die for. Brilliant checkpoints. It's difficult to put into words! Tough! Very tough so train for it!
Absolutely loved it. Managed a 14hr 10minute finish. Great medal, great T shirt but best of all, the treatment you get as a competitor and a finisher!
Only, only criticism? Quality of food at race HQ. Especially post race meal. I hate to even find a down point, it was so amazing but food on the course was brilliant but it's fuel so you do finish, shower change and need a good meal. We use a mobile food outlet, serving high quality food at our events and it is so very appreciated! Just a minor point. Obviously, at 1.30am, there is no other choice!! Suppose I just have to speed up next year! Or better still, do the 100 and maybe the pub will be open!
Now there's an idea!
