← Barns Green Half Marathon
This race boasts a great course; lumpy and challenging, beautiful views and, especially considering the awful weather, well supported and marshalled. A nice medal for finishers although no t-shirt - you could buy one but who needs yet more nylon really?
So, a top race? Not quite. The organisation wasn’t great. Congestion for parking at the race meant a long wait to actually arrive and get sorted. It was bad enough to delay the start by 15 minutes and, whilst traffic might have been worse due to the rain, it was entirely predictable. Getting people out of the car parks was even worse - a long wait in static traffic only to eventually be redirected to another exit. Race number pick up (usually sent out but I was late registering) was a bit chaotic too. Nothing huge in this and not enough to keep me away from future events. Just a tiny bit of extra briefing and thought from the volunteers around the race village would have gone a long way.
Don’t let it put you off though. The race really is beautiful and well worth it.
Ps: please get a coffee van for the race village next year! Essential pre race caffeine sadly lacking!
