If you want a flat fast marathon then this is the one for you !
Registration is over 4 days at Templehof airport .. it’s a huge expo with literally everything a runner needs on sale .. last year I arrived on Friday at 1 pm and it was silly busy .. this year I arrived Thursday for 11am opening , there were queues out side but once doors opened had number picked up , T-shirt purchased and out within half an hour ... to get option of buying finisher T-shirt along with race entry or you can buy when you arrive , I find that this option is better as there are No queues .
The race . Last year the start pens weee shambolic with people seemingly going wherever they wanted ..this year I arrived a good hour earlier and it was trouble free . Plus the marshals were hot on people trying to push forward .. going back was fine but no jumping to the front .
Incredible atmosphere before the race starts and before you know it you’re off .
As with most German races the roads are wide so although it’s a very busy race there is plenty of room .
Superb support all around the course and live band .. water stations are just that . Water in cups .. further on in the race there are energy drinks available .
You finish with a run through the Brandenburg gate .. be warned this isn’t the finish line so don’t make a sprint for it !!!
Berlins transport system is superb and all runner get free travel on race day .
Great medal , goody bag and alcohol free beer at the end .
