This was my second Centurion event after finishing the Wendover Woods 50 mile race in November. For a millisecond I considered the one off 100 mile event held alongside this also one off night 50km race. The format was 3 and a bit laps around their normal 10 mile loop starting at 11pm on a Friday night held entirely within Wendover Woods. Approx 200 of us lined up on the start line and we would be on the course supporting the crazies through the night doing the 10 lap 100 mile version.
The route is brilliant, very little flat and plenty of sharp climbs and descents. Approx 5500 ft of climbing during the 50km. Running at night just with headtorch added another interesting dimension as the lap snakes around the woodland paths. One very well stocked aid station approx halfway each lap and one at the event village where you start and finish each lap. A big bonus is having access to your kit bag after each lap. The course is superbly marked out and numerous marshals out and about would make it very difficult to get lost. At any given point you are less than 2 miles from the finish point. Running the final lap as the sun cane up over the trees was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed this event. Overall, the organisation was superb and it was also nice to see a few familiar faces that are often found at Centurion events. We received a high quality medal when we finished and got to support the rest of the finishers and the other runners still out on course doing the 100. This was a one off event but I would highly recommend and definitely return if it was held again.
