The race venue was at the Kingston Hawker Leisure centre. Parking was not available at the centre for runners, so you had to park elsewhere in the residential areas nearby. Collection of the bib number was simple, and everything seemed well organised. There was an upbeat atmosphere. The race followed the Thames path through Richmond towards Kew Gardens and can be described as an out and back route.
There were not many marshals due to the nature of the route. Through Richmond, you had to share the path with residents, which was okay. There was a water stop on your way to the turn around point. Here, there were refreshments and plenty of nibbles if you wished. I really enjoyed this race, it's picturesque, there was a great atmosphere, and about 500 or so runners - you were never alone on the course.
On the way back you actually have to pass the finish. You continue a little further, and then turn around. This felt a bit strange as you thought it was the end, it was okay as wasn’t far to go. You knew you were nearly there. When finished you received a very large chunky medal, there were nibbles and refreshments also. There wasn't loads of support along the course but that didn’t matter as you were running along the Thames which had good views to distract you along the way.
I would definitely do this race again.
