← Race to the Stones

Well, what to say about Race to the Stones. I'm writing this at a point where I'm still pretty broken but so excited that I did this. This review is for the 100k straight through option.

Pros (in no particular order)

  • Amazing volunteers at all of the check points, super friendly and cheery, even in the middle of the night.
  • A brilliant array of food available at all check points and all slightly different, which was great
  • Lots of drinks including electrolytes at each check point
  • Lots of toilets and veryclean! Even when hundreds of people must have already passed through. This was amazing, especially at 4am!
  • Beautiful views
  • Fabulous medal!
  • A really friendly event
  • Very well signposted all the way along

Cons

  • The queue to get in to the car park at the start was ridiculously long which meant that we missed our start wave. It seemed that a lot of people were simply being dropped off so it feels like there needs to be a different place for those who are being dropped off to be left so that it doesn't affect those who are going in the park.
  • The maps provided aren't to scale nor were they particularly accurate. For those who do map ready, it would be good to have accurate maps.
  • We had hoped to run more than we did, which was partly because we got stuck behind a lot of walkers. Whilst I recognise - and support - that this is an event that people do walk, it would be great if those intending to run at least some of it could be set at the front of each wave.

Overall this was an amazing event, which I'd definitely recommend to anyone who want to do an ultra!
