I took part in the Full Tour of Tameside which, if you don't know, is 4 races in 4 consecutive days. You can enter each of the 4 races individually but I think you would lose some of the uniqueness of the event - as well as rankings and results for each race, there's an overall leader board for the Full Tour.
This review focuses on the individual race.
The third race is the Hero Half Marathon. The route is a mile circuit of the local streets before doing an out-and-back along the Longdendale Trail. The course was relatively flat (about 400ft of climb over 13.3 miles - the course appears to measure a little long) with views over the local reservoirs and hills. It was very pleasant.
What ought to have been a 'straightforward' half-marathon was somewhat different by running the Full Tour . WIth the two evening races on the previous 2 days, my legs were leaden for this race. As a result, my time was a lot slower than it would have been had I done it on it's own (plenty of people did come along to just run the HM). But then again, I probably wouldn't have entered such a race on its own - being on the Full Tour making it a more interesting challenge.
Only logistics issue was that one of the fields that the organisers usually use for parking was waterlogged and as such everyone was squeezed onto the one field. The result for me was that as soon as I finished I left the site as quickly as I could (I had to get back to work) as no doubt the traffic chaos would be significant when the majority of people decided to leave. So I didn't really get to spend as much time in the athletes village setup as I might have done.
I ran this race in road shoes - the trail is pretty firm on the most part although there were a few muddy sections. But it's flat so there was much less chance of slipping over.
Medals at the end and water, all chip timed and lots of support. As I mentioned above the course did seem to be measured long (a few runners commented about this). But overall a decent race. Straightforward as a first time HM'er, although in that situation you probably wouldn't want to be doing the Full Tour as it's tough on the legs!
