· 2019 Half Marathon ·

This was the first year that Run for All have organised the Derby Half Marathon (formerly the Ramathon) and the whole event was delivered with their usual professionalism and excellent organisation.  Pre-race information was plentiful and easy to access via either their web site or by the regular emails.  The start/finish this year had moved into the city centre, with the line right outside Derby Cathedral and this was a massive improvement on the Pride Park start/finish used in previous years.  The race village on the market place also made for a cracking atmosphere before and after the race.  The route goes through the city centre and along a long, straight, closed main road all the way out to Elvaston Castle.  Marshal support was fantatsic and a lot of locals were out on the streets to support.  Water stops were every 3 miles and portaloos were found at regular intervals along the way.  The second half of the route leaves the road and hugs the River Derwent, all the way to Pride Park, before crossing the flyover and rejoining the riverside path to the city centre.  The last half mile is through the city centre, with lots of people around, with a small climb before the last 200 metres through tightly packed streets to the finish - this made for a superb atmosphere,  The goody bag is the usual Run for All affair, with a lovely tshirt, medal and a variety of snacks.  My only gripe, as usual, is the cost of the race photos - £19.95 or £24.95 - which makes it almost prohibitive to get them, although there were plenty of photographers out on the course.  All in all though, I would thoroughly recommend this event and hope to be back next year. I am expecting the number of entrants to rise significantly from the 2,800 taking part this year.
