← Anderton Boat Lift 10k & 1 Mile Fun Run

This was my first trail 10k so wasn't quite sure what to expect.

The start and finish area were at the bottom of a steep bank right opposite the boat lift which remined me so much of Oblivion at Alton Towers.

Registration was very straight forward. not many toilets available but that didn't seem to be a problem for anyone.

The start was a bit of a bottleneck as everyone of the 320 odd runners had to funnel up this steep bank on a very narrow path. to be honest I thought everyone, certainly ahead of me coped with it very well. Once at the top we ran along the top edge of the car park (which was free this day) and then onto the trail paths around the country park.

Initially the course was very undulating but once we got onto the loop sections of the course it levelled out nicely. There was a timing mat at the water station which was also the split point for laps 1 and 2. turn right for lap 1 and left for lap 2. The water station was manned very well with people taking their time to stop and take on water in a very orderly manner. That was a first!

On to lap 2 and the flat course eventually gave way to more undulating parts but not too bad until the climb to the car park which was deceiving as half of it was hidden by a bend in the road. It does take it out of you.

Having managed to get up this hill it was around the outside of the car park and then downhill all the way to the finish. extreme care was needed as this downhill section is steep so you do need your wits about you to not go too fast unless you want a ducking lol.

The medal at the finish was brilliant. An impression of the actual boat lift (see image). Really do like the Time2Run medals, they do try hard to make them special.

I did this race with a work colleague. We weren't after fast times or racing just took it steady and i think loved it more for doing that too.

Would definately recommend this trail run. the location is great. If you're taking friends\family there is plenty for them to look at and do while you're running.
