Having heard so much about the St Illtyds from various people on Twitter, it was a obvious choice for my 3rd ultra. Sometimes things with brilliant reviews don’t live up to their billing, but this certainly wasn’t one of those, it was everything a good race should be and more. There was a really good pre-race atmosphere and good mix of first timers and those warning of the tough course ahead. The course was very mixed with paths, fields and tracks and the odd stretch of road and some unintended obstacles such as an electric fence, cows and a mad horse. This however actually added to day and the course could hardly be called boring. Be prepared for hillls, but also for a lot of support from the Marshalls at the well stocked checkpoints. Racecheck we’re supporting around the course, which was new for me but very welcome. It’s a tough but do-able course and the atmosphere really helps. I’ve already signed up for next year.
