This was my first trail half marathon. It was beautiful but brutal!! I thoroughly enjoyed it despite it being challenging. The start is set in a beautiful village with ample car parking. Registration takes place on arrival which was easy. There is a toilet block which is nicer than having a porta-loo!! It is a pretty small event in terms of participants approx 350 I think. Good mix of male and females as well abilities. The start and finish line are the same. The course is through fabulous scenary with 95% off tarmac. There a few sections of road which come as a welcome break from the off-road terrain!! A couple of drink stations on route but everyone is encouraged to take their own water supplies so we didn’t need to stop to refill. No litter is created as all participants have to take their own cup/bottle. The route has plenty of stiles and gates to climb over and some of the hills are so steep I needed to walk them!! It’s very well marked so you don’t get lost. I’m usually a 1:40 ish half marathon finisher and finished in 2:07! It’s tough but great fun. You get a bowl of pasta and hot drink free at the end but there’s also bacon/sausage butties too at a small cost. No medal but you get a reusable goodie bag, cotton t-shirt (non-technical), bottle of ale and a yogurt!

There’s was good banter (and mutual respect) from fellow partipants! No problem with traffic leaving the event.
You definitely need good trail shoes and advisable to have a trail rucksack with water bottles/camel pack. I ran with my besties and saw fellow run club members which made the event even more fun! I’d run it again next year :)
