← Brighton Marathon

My second Brighton Marathon and I can’t help but feel a bit marmite about the event. Some bits they get so right: great medal, incredible atmosphere, decent goodies, lovely course (well, most of it anyway - the power station sucks). Things that frustrated last time were better this year - the park and ride worked like a dream and there was plenty of water! What’s not so great? Well, better crowd control is needed - marshalling the supporters was great at the designated crossings but there were so many people dashing in front of runners! Stopping, breaking stride, changing direction suddenly isnt the best fun after 20+ miles! Possibly unfair to mark the event down on this but if you’re thinking of running it you should know! Meanwhile, the finish funnel is almost as long as the race! The last thing needed after 26.2 is several hundred more metres of chaos with bag collection, freebies etc. Just let me sit down quietly somewhere! Oh, and change it back to a finishers t-shirt rather than a generic participant one!
