A newish event that just needs some final touches. The registration was easy enough. Getting there are parking was fine too. Didn't have to queue around at all. There was a little bit of a queue for race numbers but that's not a big issue. It was a little old under the trees though, so jackets recommended before the race! The event isn't chip timed and with the issues I'll explain shortly that is a bit of a problem. The start was ok but there are large section of single track early on in the race. I got caught up behind some slower runners as did others. Perhaps there should be a longer section at the start before hitting the single trails, that would help the pack spread out. The scenery was magnificent and the main reason I signed up. I always love running in Cannock Chase so this was an obvious race to sign up to. The problems though we're with navigation. The signs were apparently tampered with and so it sent a large group of runners the wrong way. It therefore looks like runners ended up running anything from 11 to 17 miles. Event organisers might want to looks at spray painting the arrows for the course to stop this happens. It did cause frustration as after the big group I was in had caught up with the rest of the runners, we'd already run an extra 2 miles. We then hit the same problem as earlier, getting stuck behind slower runners when navigating through the single track trails. Overall it was really good training and this is a beautiful place to run. It just needs some final tweeks here and there to make it a really solid event. I hate to be critical of any event as it takes a lot of organising so hopefully the organisers take it as feedback to improve it next time.
