← Adidas Manchester Marathon

Manchester Marathon was a fantasic day. Registration, baggage all went smoothly. Runner were kept informed with regular emails. One minor gripe. Why was there no smart phone app for this race? There was a really good pre-race atmosphere. Starting pens were a little bit confusing to find. Race itself was fantastic with perfect weather conditions, awesome support from the Manchester public and well marshalled. Course was on good wuality roads, not completly flat, but is still a very fast route - perfect for PB chasers. Think they changed the course this year and took out the biggest hills, which was very welcome. Aid stations were very regular with gels on offer, as well as water. Nice to see ‘race angels’ in the final few miles. I know they are a big help for many. Final mile saw the long stretch to the finish line. Crowd support there was incredible, as it was on many sections of the race. Finishers received a beautiful solid, chunky medal. That’s how all marathon medals should be. The finishers shirt was ok. What I was disappointed with was the lack of nutrition for finishers. A bottle of water and a tiny soreen bar is very poor in my opinion. Improvents are needed there. The Erdinger 0% larger was a nice touch, although I didnt have any myself. There was a post race massage option but queues were so long. I waited 45minutes and then just gave up. There was a chill out area with DJ, which was quite good. In summary - This is the 4th time I’ve done this race and I love it. Fast course and incredible support make it the perfect race to do. On the negative side, little improvements are needed. Didn’t think organisation was as slick as previous years. More finish line nutrition is an absolute must. A tiny soreen bar isnt enough. Massage queues were very frustrating. Over all, it was a superb day snd is a race I would certainly reccomend. Have to mention the crowd support again. Manchester public were awesome.
