If you're looking for a race with some brutal hills, tricky descents. stunning scenery and taking on the tempremental Scottish weather then this is for you. The Mighty Deerstalker is a serious, and seriously good fun, trail race with something for both the 'speedy mountain goats' as well as the 'fun runners', with a great atmosphere and fancy dress during the race and a legendary after party. Be prepared to seriously consider your race kit, and packing though as this race is very exposed to the elements. We had torrential rain and snow leading up to the event which made putting up our tent challenging, however the weatehr eased slightly for the race. Camping in the middle of March is also interesting but the after party, with a great selection of ales, ciders and gin helps take the edge off. The race itself is around 9 miles (although really about 11 if you take account for the serious elevation) and you cover 2 large hills (I think its fine to call them mountains), the second of which includes a 200m vertical ascent of a scree field which is very challenging and many have to rersort to using hands and feet to scramble up in. There are some very technical winding and settp descents which can be very challenging in the conditions with lots of slippy mud and exposed roots all adding to the fun. There are then a couple of river crossings thrown in, all perfectly safe and very well marshalled... although incredibly cold. We had 2 aid stations on the 'Full' distance, both only containing water which was a little disappointing. Thos planning on taking a long time may want to think about carry some extra fuel or hydration. There is also a 'half stalker', where you miss out the second (tougher) hill, and for those looking for something even tougher, the double stalker (2 laps). All in all a great event with some fun running in stunning conditions, taking on the best Scotland can throw at you... all wrapped up in a cracking 'Ratrace' party atmosphere
