← Jones o Gymru Anglesey Half Marathon & 10k

This was without doubt the most picturesque 10k I've done to date. Starting from the Menai Bridge, crossing over it and then down underneath it was amazing. More breathtaking than the Tyne Bridge on the Great North Run. The whole start area was so relaxed. There was no queue for the toilets which is unheard of. The 10k was the last race to start as the half marathon went off at 9am followed by the kids Dragon Dash at 9.20am. Everything ran to time. Always Aim high were giving out cow bells for free so there was plenty of noise around the town. Storm Freya had hit Anglesey hard the day before but come race day it rained but not too much and the course was sheltered. It's undulating .. I'd say mostly uphill for the 10k until the turn around point and then mostly downhill with the odd bump or two. It does seem to make for fast times though as I surprised myself by knocking 2 minutes off my last 10k on the flat. The finish line was a real hive of activity with loads of people out supporting .. plenty of goodies to eat and drink as you crossed the line; chocolate, crisps, jelly babies, bananas, high 5 drinks, orange seqments all free to help yourself to. The finishers medal and t-shirt were top quality. The medal heavy and depicted the Menai Bridge as did the t-shirt which was of the technical variety and good quality too. I couldn't fault the whole event. I'd highly recommend this race just for that start across the bridge and then under it. Oh, one more thing .. the race photographer for the event was taking pictures as you ran along the river bank so you get a photo with the bridge in shot. Best run shot ever!!
