This was the third time that I’ve run this event and the second time on the newer one lap course. The start area was well organised as usual and this time there were plenty of loos. They had made a section for the guys only, which helped the queues (when the guys bothered to read the “boys only” sign and use the “boys only” loos! The wave start seemed to work well until you hit the first roundabout and left turn where you had to slow to a walk. There were still cars on the Elizabeth Way Bridge on the course - not ideal for runners or drivers! The course was slowed several times during the first half of the race and it was hard to settle into a rhythm until about 5 miles. It did seem particularly crowded this year. Running through Granchester was great - well supported. The section out of the city and along Barton Road was good with support and more space to run. Before you know it, you’re back in the city and weaving through the colleges and Market Square. Miles 11 to the finish are fine, except that the course narrows again until you get to the Maids Causeway and by then you’re pretty much done. Nice medal, although much smaller than previous years! Decent goodie bag and Erdinger Beer are handed out as you make you’re way out. Overall, it is a good event and it is my local half-mara. However, it is pricey and was very crowded this year.
