This was my first time doing this race and I had heard many good things about it. Not surprising really as this is it’s 36th year!! The cost of this race is very reasonable indeed – I have paid the same for a 10k! Even though I entered after the cut off date, I was sent my race number and race details through the post which took away some of the pre-race-day anxiety! All the race day details were included in the pack and there was also plenty of info on the website. We arrived at the Club House, just by the start, quite early and we were guided by marshals to a parking space – all very organised. There were plenty of toilets and a few stalls selling running items as well as food and drink. Thankfully, the start went off without any delay, as it was a very cold morning (it didn’t start until 10.30am so it would have been much colder with an earlier start!) It was a fairly hilly second half but nothing too daunting, it was a nice winding route with plenty of marshals along the way - and where there were houses, there were locals standing out offering support and high fives! I have to give a big thank you to all the Marshals who braved the cold and were very encouraging, especially the 2 ladies at around mile 12 who were ringing cow bells and very audibly shouting encouragement. We called out for them to run with us and one of them ran to the top of the hill with us – bless her cotton socks! At the finish we were given a nice goodie bag with a commemorative coin instead of a medal - which is quite different, a nice drawstring bag, water and a mars bar (eaten within minutes of finishing!) They also had marshals who were giving out foil blankets to those who wanted one, and they had unravelled them and were helping everyone with them, which was a very thoughtful touch. I would definitely recommend this race. I wouldn’t hesitate to do it again next year.
