← Virtual Runner Live - January

A very nice way to kick off 2019. The race was very well organised with lots of pre-race information being sent out and the organisers answering questions on the event Facebook page. number collection was easy, although I was there early as I usually am! The race starts on a path next to the tram line. The only gripe of the whole event was the low volume on the PA, so the announcer's pre-race instructions were inaudible to most - I was stood in the middle of the field and heard very little. Once the race gets underway, it's a good run. Mostly on tarmac surfaces along the banks of the River Trent, the course is made up of a couple of out an back sections on both sides of the river. This makes it easy to break the race up in your head into 2km sections and time passed very quickly. The out and back nature also means that there are two sections where runners were coming the other way too and everyone was very friendly and supportive of each other. Marshals were excellent and well-briefed, as we negotiated other path users and the Sunday morning rowers carrying their boats across the course. You can see the finish coming from a fair way out and it was a nice touch to have the announcer calling you home too. Post race goodies consisted of a bottle of water and a superb medal, maybe that should be expected with Virtual Runner?! All in all a lovely way to start the New Year and thoroughly recommended for 2020! (crikey, have I really just started talking about 2020?!?!)
