← Liverbird Double Day Marathon day 2

Liverbird Marathon(s) take place New Years Eve & New Years Day. These are no frills, no bs charity events in every sense of the word. To register you have to donate the race fee directly into a Giving page & send a photoshot as proof. The cash raised benefits two great charities. What a great idea this is. The choice is to do one of the days, or both if you’re feeling brave. Race number is collection only. The course is 4x out-and-backs along the side of the Mersey. It’s not the most inspiring course in all honesty but on a positive note, its a flat course, perfect for a PB if the weather is good. There are aid station on each section. Mid-race toilet facilities are at a pub. Crowd support is minimal but the nature of course means there’s a constant stream of runners. Its tradition for participants to encourage as they pass one another. Finishers receive a quality medal. Red medal on day 1 & a blue medal on day 2. In summary - Liverbird Marathon is as basic as it comes. What you do get is a good honest race with lots of raised for 2 charities. The course can be a little uninspiring and mentally tough but it didn’t bother me. Lets be honest - running a marathon on New Years Eve/Day is the perfect way to start/end the year. It’s a race I will always do.
