← Wendover Woods 50

First centurion event My first 50 mile run My 50th marathon . My long term goal is to run 100 marathons & join the 100 marathon club & also to complete a 100 mile running event. So my longest run to date prior to WW50 was 42 miles & flat! I picked WW50 as it was a big challenge for me, not only as my longest ever run but the terrain is hilly with 2000 ft elevation each 10 mile lap! 10k feet total over the course , in the woodlands with tree roots & felled trees to negotiate & some styles to climb. The hills are steep & downhill seems steeper but stunning enclosed traffic free route in the beautiful Wendover Woods with the Gruffalo overlooking us! The route is amazingly well signed and with a checkpoint approx 5 miles & the main tent area to get food / kit / toilet / lap count made it easy to fuel and keep in touch with Marshals , crew & my husband who supported patiently for 13 hours (& 17 minutes) The last Laps were dark so more challenging, a good head torch is essential (& mandatory kit) we were blessed with crisp dry sunny November weather Finished with a great medal , tee, soup & tea & super proud Fab set up, brilliant challenge & worked hard for a memorable 50th (ultra) marathon Cut of is 15 hours & much needed , course record was smashed in 7:19 & I was in awe of the winner who lapped me TWICE ! Great day with running friends who also took part & came to cheer & take pics Thanks centurion See you in 2019 for another 50 challenge
