This race is superb! My favourite race so far! The queues to the car parks were pretty long and we ended up parking on a local road as the car parks were full, luckily we got there early so we weren’t worried. We were grateful for the warm up walk to the start! The queues for the portaloos were also very long but I definitely chose the wrong queue, as usual! The Baggage drop was very straight forward and easy to use. The race started without much delay and around 3,000 runners ran past the Conwy Castle and towards Llandudno, past Llandudno Pier and heading towards the Great Orme. The climb up the Orme wasn’t as bad as I was fearing although there were some pretty steep sections but the fabulous fast downhill sections more than made up for those! The views were spectacular! We climbed up and down the Orme and then back down onto the same road that we had started on – back to Conwy Castle. The support was very good, obviously a bit thin whilst up the Orme, although there were some exceptionally brave (Fire cadets I think?) on the Orme handing out water (It was very cold and windy at this point as the Orme was blocking out the sun!) At the finish there was water, a lovely lady handed me some cake (yay!) and then I was given my medal (whilst my cheeks were stuffed with cake) which was a very lovely design and a cotton mix t-shirt which is also a nice design. I didn’t want to pay extra for a technical t-shirt and as it turned out, I prefer the look at the free one! My only (small) complaint was that the road around the Orme wasn’t closed to traffic so along the narrow road most runners were on the road (there were many Sunday walkers out) and people had to shout ahead to warn other runners of a car. All in all, this was a fabulous race with outstanding views, a lovely atmosphere and a great medal. I will definitely be returning next year and would recommend to anyone else looking to complete a Late season race.
