← New York City Marathon

I loved this race. Amazing logistics to get 50,000 people out to Staten Island to the race village and ready to run. This meant a long wait to start but there were loads of bagels, powerbars, water and coffee to keep us fed and plenty of room to have a lie down. The race itself is tougher than the other majors I have done (I only have Boston to go). It isn't flat but has long rises that seem to go on forever, but you get a tour of the 5 boroughs and the crowds were fabulously unrestrained in their encouragement. The weather was kind so we had crowds the whole way except on the bridges, where they don't have access. I liked that because sometimes in a race I need a few minutes of quiet time to gather my thoughts. The rest of the time the crowd really helped, especially when I was feeling tired towards the end. Loads of music on the way round. Great finish in Central Park and a lovely medal. Bit of a walk afterwards to get my bag, get through the barriers and find a way back to the hotel but I'll remember this race for a very long time.
