My first time at this event and it certainly won't be the last. Lots of information was sent out by email in advance of the day, so we knew what to expect. I'm not a massive fan of collecting race numbers on the day, but everything was well-organised and there were plenty of desks and staff, so my number was collected easily and without a fuss. A one-way system was in operation through the school buildings, which made things easier still, although one of the marshals on the exit door seemed to be having a tough time trying to stop runners who had got their race bibs going back in the 'wrong' way. Bag drop too was very easy and well-organised with a £1 donation to charity 'requested'. I met up with fellow Visor Club members Brett, Ray and Luke just outside. The start funnel went very smoothly - everyone was let off at the same time, no waves which have been frustrating at other recent races. By this time it was a bright, sunny, but cold morning and this was the case for the rest of the day. The route can certainly be described as 'undulating' in the truest sense. Very little of it was flat, lots of ups and downs, but no massive inclines. The first 7km or so is along a closed road. From then on it takes a turn and heads into the very picturesque Clumber Park. After a small out and back loop, it heads up hill for a couple of KM, not too steep, but enough to notice that it's a climb. There then follows a long decent, with some witty signs on the road side that generated smiles as we ran past them. The final third of the race is a(nother) steady climb up to Worksop College, where it snakes through the grounds before emerging by College Pines Golf Club. From then on it's a gentle decent to the finish and the collection of a rather nice medal and long-sleeved shirt as well as a packet of breakfast biscuits. The route was well signed and marshaled throughout and was easy to follow. There were three water stations at regular intervals, serving water in plastic cups. Local support wasn't massive, but a few pockets of people made for a nice atmosphere. All in all a very enjoyable race which I'd definitely recommend.
