I did this event last year but I was injured so went back for a 2nd go. The race is exspensive for a half and due to its poularity is now a ballot, with lots of charity palces available for between £350 -£500 minimum amount to raise. the start area has plenty of space pre race and for once there seemed to be plenty of toilets. baggage drop is at the far end of the village away from most of the other stuff going on They do a warm up at 830 and then everyone gathers in pens ready for the start at 9. All fairly standard but from here I began to enjoy it less. This year felt significantly busier than last year and the course is NARROW! this meant I lost count of the amount of times I had to check my running. I was running with the 2hr pacers and this meant our pace was not consistant with accelerarion and then sudden slowing throughout. this may not be an issue for those running faster but was a challenge for the more averaged paced runner. it really is a race of 2 halves with the first 6 miles around the streets of central london and the last 7 in the park. despite the terrible weather crowd support was great particually in the park. Mile markers were slightly long thoughout the race and then the last mile was short. now and here is my major grip. The organisers were keen to point out it was the first time in 11 years it had rained but at the end of the race as the rain poured down no-one want to queue for another 20 mins to fill a goodie bag! and then walk to the far end of the village to collect there bags. this meant trying to get through the food stalls area which was packed with runners meeting family etc and swapping the bags and refreshments round would have been logistically more sensible. however once collected the goodie bag was of a good quality. overall this race should be commended for its obvious thought to give back to the park, ( wooden medals, cups at 2 of 5 water stations etc) but with the numbers now pushing 16k this course is just too narrow to think about a time in my opinion and London Landmarks now feels like a better half in London.
