This event was very well organised and the first time I'd done it as it was race 8 in the Wiltshire Road Race League. Registration was very easy and the baggage truck was useful for stahing things away in. The pre-race briefing was loud and clear for all to hear and the supervised walk to the start (roughly 1km from registration) was well organised with lead cyclists and the medical bike assisting with road crossings. The course has 3 significant hills throughout and is far from easy, but the views at the top are beautiful. There was lots of cheering at the top of them too and a water station at the top of the second one, roughly half way round. The third hill was more of an offroad path and I think the decision to use this path was to avoid a main road but it certainly alters your pace as the surface is loose with mall stones. At the end, the selection of free goodies were brilliant and included bags of Skittles! There was alo an incredible array of cakes on sale too which looked delicious. I didn't use the LPS food tent but it looked popular and smelled good too. The main downside to this race, is that it is almost identical, apart from distance, to the Devizes half marathon that I've done twice; same hills, same views, same organiser. It would be nice if the 10k could be a stand alone route just to mix things up a bit. I was also craving some sort of sugary pick-me-up at the water station - Jelly Babies would have been good - and there needed to be more portaloos. 6 really wasn't enough and the long queues showed that people didn't want to traipse over to the leisure centre to use them for fear of missing the briefing and the walk to the start. That said, there was a great atmosphere, the marshals from Devizes RC were fantastic and the weather was good too!
