← ATW Bedford Running Festival

After signing up fairly late registration was simple and my number arrived by post a couple of weeks before hand. (you could also collect on the day to save postage costs)

On arriving I chose to use the official event parking which I felt could have been better signposted. Parking was approx 1 mile form the start but this did give you the chance to get a taste for some of the route.

On arrival in the event village my inital reacion was how busy it was! However it was well set up with a large stage running fitness classes, numerous food outlets and a couple of retial stands.

Maybe I got lucky but there were no queues for either the toilets for bag drop before or after the race which is to be commended.

As the start of the race drew closer runners were ushered out the back of the village to holding pens based on expected finish time and then walked to start in 5 minute intervals, this seemed to work well to minimse over crowding.

The majority of the race is run on paths around lakes/river of Bedford which only allow for about 4 wide and despite the best efforts of filtering at the start I found it was crowded for the the first couple of miles.

The course whilst very flat does have a lot of turns which personally I felt slowed me down and did not allow for a consistantcy in my running.

Great crowd support at the start and finish and the marshals were great but limited support on the rest of the course.

Great medal and t-shirt at finish as well as water and banana but worth noting there was initially no water stations planned on this race but the organisers added one in due to the heat.

Overall a great looking course but very busy and not sure I will do again
