← Express to Hornsea

‘Hornsea Running Festival’ was another friendly & fun event by those nice people at ‘Its Grim Up North’ (IGUN).

It was a series of various race distances ranging from 5k to full marathon. I had originally booked the full marathon but due to injury had asked to do Half Marathon instead. Thanks to the organisers for allowing this.

Pre race briefing & number collection was spot on. As always with IGUN events there was a friendly atmosphere.

The race start times were staggered to prevent congestion on the paths which were fairly narrow in places. This worked well. Water stations every 3 miles were very welcome because it was a very hot day.

All races were out & back along Trans Pennine Trail starting at Hornsea & heading towards Hull along a disused railway line. The course was very flat & paths were good to run on.

There were a couple of busy roads to cross & a some very minor ones. Thanks to Marshall’s for helping keep us safe by stopping traffic.

Finishers got a beautiful solid medal & finisher’s bag containing chocolate & beer. There was also a feast of treats at the finish with a variety of home baked cakes, buns & biscuits. Absolutely delicious!

What a great day. I’ll be back again next year.

In summary...

HIGHS: Fast, Flat & great fun.

LOWS: Can’t really think of any!

BOTTOM LINE: A superb day of running with distances that suit all abilities. Highly recommended.
