← ATW Bedford Running Festival

First time I have done any run around bedford. The registration was easy... all online and postal delivery available so in the mortning I was just able to rock up about 30 minutes before the start. The course is very flat and mainly on wide mulit-use pathways around lakes and alongside rivers within a few miles of bedford town centre.

There is a downside with the route in that quite early on you do 2 laps round a lake. From about miles 2-6 you are on a loop either overtaking or being overtake by other runners. I was in the middle of the pack and as the field was quite busy at this point there was lots of fast runners passing quickly whilst others were making full use of the path. I don't think this is really fair on the faster runners who have to shout to giove notice of them approaching, nor is it fair on teh slower runners constantly having to watch over their shoulder and being regularly startled.

After this the field spreads out nicely so its not an issue later in the race where there is a bit of out and back with 2 way traffic.

The scenery is really nice for a run so close to town and the support is great once you get closer to the finish.

Aid statiuons, from what I saw, were limioted to water but I think this is fine for a half.

Cracking medal at the end and plenty of other goodies on offer once you finish.

This would be a great half to set a pb as long as the weather is dry (as there are a few grass bits) and is a really well organised and friendly race.
