Last year I ran the 10k but having run longer races this year I thought I'd go for the long half. By far the longest trail run of ever done.
As always with Relish Running races the registration process was simple and friendly, we also registered the kids on the day for the 500m fun run.
Once you've left the university you head off into woodland around the bath skyline and eventually down onto the canal. The 1st feed station - which in themselves are a thing of wonder and loveliness. Is around 4 miles in before heading off towards Batheaston and along the river. Then after you've been lulled into a false sense of security the real hills start and man alive are they some hills. I can't recall a time where I've found running downhill as hard as up but you do on this one. However the stunning scenery by far and away makes up for it. That and the support of the other runners.
The route is very well marshalled who are all very supportive and friendly which is just as well at mile 15 of 16 which is up a rather steep hill......I walked....I wasn't alone :)
The local support is patchy but that's because of the route and it's not really a massive event but There's so many marshals and other runners you don't notice too much.
The feed stations are absolutely amazing all stocked with electrolytes, water and more food and snacks than a child's birthday party :) I definitely ate my own body weight over the full 16 miles!
As a HUGE bonus there are also plenty of free photos and photos to buy posted on Facebook for you to use, it's a major bonus for me and one of the reasons I love Relish races.
I can't recommend this race enough, whether you want to run the 5k, 10k long half or full if you're totallt insane the views are fab and definelty provides a challenge and change from road running. Will be entering again in 2019.
