← Conti Thunder Run

Thunder Run is a 24 hour event in which you can enter as a relay team , doubles or solo. The idea is simple ... how many 10k laps can you do in the time.

The first thing I loved was there was zero competition between runners. Everyone was on their individual journey- whether it was 2 or 3 Laps in a team or going solo and simply trying to keep moving at times. Yet despite this every runner supported each other.

Registration was simple email communication was regular with parking & camping instructions.

The event was easy to find and camp sites , toilets & facilities were well maintained, close by and kept clean.

Only recommendation would be to regulate how much space teams have for camping. If you went early on the Friday there was no worry but by Friday evening campsites were full. Some teams I thought took advantage of this and roped off huge areas unnecessarily.

Food on sight was good value and there was a event Village with stalls and even a beer bus. It felt like a festival.

Saturday came and there are a couple of local parkrun’s if you wanted a little warm up before the race began at 12.

Once the first runners were started everyone enjoyed a real festival of running. Personally I enjoyed doing things I don’t normally do, such as night runs with the head torch.

The route was very tough - 10k through woods & fields with testing hills and unforgiving surfaces as it was so dry. A real test.

You received your tshirt at registration but to collect the medal you needed to swap your timing chip in.

Definetly be back next year.
