A 24 hour running event, why not..?
I entered as a solo and arrived on Saturday morning. I pitched my tent, registered and got my race number, then went for breakfast. Catering was plentiful with food for everyone. As I took in the surroundings and atmosphere, the sun was getting warmer. I got a sweat on just getting my kit on...!
As 12 noon approached, the atmosphere was buzzing. Music was playing, EVERYONE was smiling, and the weather was unbelievable.
10, 9, 8, 7, 6,.... We were off! What I loved about this event, is that there was no pressure. No cut off time, (apart from 24 hours obviously). No ego's.
I ran 2 laps, then took a break. Then another 2 laps, another break etc etc... Each lap was 5 miles on a course that was undulating! We had some shade, and some exposed areas in the summer sun. After 2 miles, we were met with a Blues Brothers act playing a variety of music that got you going. 3 miles in, a water station with the friendliest people EVER... Hugh thanks to them for manning that station for the full 24 hours!
After 30 miles before midnight, I went back to my tent for a change of kit and some food.... Then disaster - I fell asleep for 7 hours!!! I was fuming with myself. Who'd have thought you needed sleep during a 24 hour event.... Ha ha.
I went back out and did another 2 laps before calling it a day. I was happy with 40 miles over the weekend.
All in all, this event is fantastic. From solo runners, to teams, everyone was happy and the atmosphere was great.
I will return in 2019 to right a wrong - and not fall asleep...
