← Wollaton Park 10k Run

An enjoyable event, well worth doing.

We arrived for registration on a rainy morning. Parking was easy, although charged at £2.50, in the grounds of the school that hosted the race.  Marshalls were directing cars, so the whole process was easy. Race numbers were ready and waiting in the marquee in the race village, along with timing chips which were fixed to trainers with the ties provided. In the hour before the race was due to start, most people were using the various tents and tree cover to shelter from the rain.  As the organised warm up began though the sun came out and the day brightened up.  The start line was a couple of hundred yards away from the grounds of the school.

The race briefing was not able to be heard by the majority of runners. The excellent PA system in the school grounds was replaced for this by the starter with a megaphone, which all but the runners at front couldn't hear, so i do not know what the briefing consisted of.  This was the only negative of the whole day though.

The route was described as 'undulating', which was bang on. No big climbs but 3 or 4 ups and downs as the route progressed around the lovely grounds of Wollaton Park.  Marshalls were plenty and they were very supportive and encouraging.  Three water stations was plenty on the 2 laps of 5k route.

For the £20 entry fee we received a technical race T Shirt, a very nice medal and a 5 day pass to the Virgin Active Helath Club, which I would describe as good value.  The race is certainly recommended and I will be returning.
