I heard about Comrades many years ago and over the last few years my friends who are regulars have tried to persuade me to do this. So I entered the race, qualified, and trained.
Yes it is a long flight and a long way away BUT it is completely worth it.
I did the down run (2018) so can only comment on this route. Even though it is net downhill there are still a huge amount of hills to run up.
The race is full of tradition too numerous to get into during this report but they give the event a deep meaning and feel that makes it so special.
international athletes are made very welcome in many ways and first timers just the same.
it is long and it is hard. But the experience of the course and the finish make every step worthwhile.....
If you get the chance to do Comrades then I would thoroughly recommend it.
