← Ramathon

This is the 2nd time I’ve done Derby Half Marathon (previously known as Ramathon). This year it had new organisers (RUN FOR ALL) & like their other events it was a very professionally organised race.

Pre race atmosphere was very good. Starting pens were relaxed with runners choosing their start zones rather than having to stick with the times they estimated at registration.

The course is a fast one, definite PB potential. Starting outside the city’s Pride Park football stadium & heading throughtge City centre then rural roads before once again heading back to the football stadium for the finish.

It was a very hot day but there were regular water stations containing water & gels to keep runners hydrated. Sadly I saw several runners struggling & requiring help in the stifling heat. Thanks to the medical staff who do an amazing job. Public support was very good.

Finishers were rewarded with a smart, top quality tech shirt, sold medal & finishers a bag containing food items to aid recovery. Nice to have the medal actually placed around my neck rather than being handed to me.

There was medal engraving & a massage available which was completely FREE which is a nice bonus. Queues for these were quite large though.

This is a good race & I highly recommend it.

In summary:

HIGHS: Well organised race with PB potential.

LOWS: Medal/shirt similar to many other RFA races. Some variety would be nice!

BOTTOM LINE: Fast, friendly & well organised race. Great event.
