This was the first Run Gatwick Half Marathon but I had high expectations because it was being organised by the same team who organise the award winning Run Reigate. Run Gatwick was a great event an I certainly wasn't disappointed.

The event village had everything you'd expect and more, some great entertainment for the whole family, nice food and drinks stalls and the BA basecamp where you might have been lucky enough to win free flights to Europe!

The race started and finished in Southgate Park in Crawley. From the start the route made it's way through Crawley and out towards Gatwick Airport and alongside the runway and under the flight path. That was a truly unique experience of having planes take off right over your head in the middle of running a half marathon! I enjoyed running on the country lanes back towards Crawley but as the event gathers in popularity it may become a bit crowded in places where only one lane was closed off for the race. Also, local support was mainly contained to Crawley town centre so it would be nice to see more done to encourage supporters to watch from the rest of the route as well but this is really quite a minor point.

Upon finishing we received a nicely designed medal, a fantastic tech t-shirt and a buff. There was also an opportunity for a selfie with a former star of athletics as Colin Jackson, Sally Gunnell and Iwan Thomas were all in attendance.

So all in all a really well run and enjoyable half marathon which I'd highly recommend!

But don't just take my word for it, have a look at my video and see for yourself: https://youtu.be/aHXEHTGL1Oc
