This was my first Tough Runner event, originally scheduled for March 2018 but was thwarted by the `Beast from the East`, and I can say Im glad it was recheduled becuase of the stunning views coming down the other side of the valley, they were spectacular.
OK, I have a small critisism its with signage from the road, this could be improved, when I hit the rubble path I wasnt sure if I was heading in the right direction and almost turn around, but the satnav said keep going and just before I gave up I saw the flags and banners, so please guys review this for your future races, I appreciate you have lots to arrange and this might not have been thought about.
Setup: Very impressed with the whole setup to be fair, communication before and during event was fantastic and it continues after via facebook, chip collection and briefing spot on.
The Route: Stunning, tough, enjoyable, challenging, everything you want in a Trail Race to work up a sweat through Natures Highway.
Ammenities: Toilets didnt seam to be too overcrouded, I only waited for 1 person in front of me, cafe and registration was undercover and well stocked, I heard a rumour that at the end runners were given FREE sausage and chips if they went back to the cafe area, sadly I had to get away and didnt sample these delights.
Water Stations: There was one at the 3mile mark and then at the finish point, some say that because of the humidity that they would have liked more, but in my opinion if you prepare well before hand the one out on the course was enough.
Volunteers: If there is one thing that never fails to amaze me is the enthusiasm and support given by the volunteers, I always enjoy a brief passing chat with them all, it makes them feel involved and involved they are and a crucial part of any race - so a HUGE THANK YOU to you guys.
The Cheeky Bit: There was a brutal but bewtiful vertical climb for the last 700m, well it felt vertical haha, very cheeky and in a strange sort of way I really enjoyed it, especially knowing that the finish was at the top - nice touch.
So will I do another Tough Runner? Dont know why I even asked myself that question of course I will 100% gonna do many more!!
Did I enjoy it: Hell Yeah
Was it tough? Well nobody said it was going to be easy
Summary: A nice tough, well marshalled, well organised event, but please do review signage from the road - see you again soon, very soon
