← MK Marathon Weekend

so Milton Keynes half was my second half this year and my 5th half so far. Those that don’t know I run to control my condition known as POTs postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. I’m well controlled and manage my condition well. It will be come clear why I’m telling you this later

I registered a while ago as people had told me this course was good for a pb as was fairly flat. There was regular updates from the organises and in days leading up to event information about what to do in the heat etc.

getting to start was easy the baggage drop is one of the easiest I have been to and plenty of toilets (always important) I was in yellow pen and was running with my race buddy we couldn’t get into pen to start with but once first wave went off they filtered us in.

The first part of course is onthe road this was nice and wide and didn’t feel congested.  it is fairly flat but there were some inclines but these felt hard in  the 27 degree heat. There were water stops every 3 miles and plenty of local support. The last 5-6 miles are through country paths which were lovely and scenic (from what I remember) sadly mile 10 and things started to go wrong for me. I had slowed my pace for this race due to the heat as POTs and heat is not a good combo. My awesome run buddy kept me going but  it wasn’t pretty.

The stadium finish was amazing but sadly on crossing the finish line I collapsed. From what I’m told I got medical suppprt very quickly and I was very well looked after. I recovered within about an hour and after been checked over was allowed to go home. The risk of my condition is that I will collapse. I have been out running since and I am fine

so would I run it again yes definitely but I have agreed that I will only run if not hot as not worth the risk again. This is a fab course
