← Bracknell Half Marathon

This was only my 2nd ever half marathon and I even managed a PB. For only £24 this event was great value for money. The race number and chip for my running shoes was posted to me about 10 days before the event. The start and finish was in the town centre and a local car park provided free parking for all day which was only a couple of minutes walk away. There was a tent to leave bags and the organisers did say not to leave valuables as this wasn't secured or managed.

The course was pretty much all off road on either pavements or footpaths with various pacers. With no road closures I guess the costs were kept down. There were mile markers throughout the course and 8 water stations with water in either plastic or polysterene cups with sponges. Cups instead of bottles weren't great but again it kept costs down. The sponges were a nice touch.

As the race started at 9am it took a while for the public to wake up and come out to support but as it was such a lovely warm day in the end there was a lot of support. The jelly babies offered certainly helped. The course was tough with lots of turns and bends and plenty of underpasses meaning a few "mounds of opportunity" (i.e. hills and inclines). Marshalls supported us well with regular words of encouragement. The course was a lot more scenic that I realised Bracknell could ever be.

The finish was in the new Lexicon of the town centre. Supporters were behind barriers in a covered area which was packed. The noise was immense which meant even after 12.9 miles I had a sprint finish left. At the end you were given a good bag containing a nice medal, Mars bar, bottle of Lucozade and water, running t-shirt. Would I recommend this event or did it again? Definately.
